The MOVEMAN technology

Existing telematics technology should be readily adaptable for the MOVEMAN strategy

The technology necessary to hasten future driving reform

Telematic and satellite navigation (SATNAV) technologies are in widespread use, from standard in many new cars to commercial vehicles for fleet management, navigation assistance and safety.

The technology necessary for MOVEMAN will be relatively basic. Existing technology should be readily adaptable to suit the specific needs of MOVEMAN.
In-vehicle components would likely comprise:
* data storage (road system data and recorded vehicle data);
* communication with the central management system;
* facility for some local data analysis; and
* a driver interface for information, advice and warnings—including excess speed, poor driving patterns, road conditions, accidents and traffic congestion.

Desirably, the in-vehicle unit would interface with manufacturer-suppled SATNAV systems.
